The Group was formed in 1983 by Sheila Allen and Kay Coutin and has continued to attract new Members. They are a mixture of experts and those who enjoy things historical.

Unless otherwise stated, the Group meet from September to April, usually on the third Wednesday of the month, in the Sharpthorne Church Hall in Station Road at a quarter to Eight, and visitors are welcome. They have a varied programme of talks and charge £3 a head (or £15 for the whole year) to cover the cost of the speaker and coffee and biscuits. During the summer months they arrange occasional visits to places of historical interest and there is a Christmas Social in December.

All the photographs, documents and maps of the parish, from the early 1900s, that have been collected by the Local History Group are kept in the Local History Archive.
